The Dome - Grey County, Ontario
Drum Stories - Ted Warren
Recorded in a single day, Drum Stories by Ted Warren is made up of 17 improvised solo drum recordings. Each tune tells a distinct story through rhythm and sound. Together, the collection takes the listener on an exciting journey through the emotional ups and downs of life.
“If you’re planning to take on the unique challenge of recording a solo drum album, you’d better choose a unique location to record it in. The Dome was a space that was up to the challenge. When I got the call from drummer Mark Mariash inviting me to work with him and Ted Warren at his studio, I jumped at the chance. Mark thought he needed my help to capture Ted’s sound. He didn’t, of course. The Dome is his home studio, a place where he has recorded his own drum performances on so many great albums. But spending the day with two of Canada’s best drummers was an opportunity I wasn’t going to pass up. The day was filled with all the geeky drum talk one would expect, but more importantly, it was filled with some of the best drum performances I’ve had the chance to record.”

The Dome
The Dome is the home and studio of drummer Mark Mariash and his wife, Beth Hamilton, located two hours northwest of Toronto in beautiful Grey County. Positioned on a glacial esker and nestled among stands of sugar maple, pine, and cedar, it is a place where you can enjoy the stars by night and the birds by day. The Dome complex comprises two geodesic domes joined by a connecting foyer, creating an organic live-work environment. The studio portion is a 625-square-foot geodesic dome attached to the main living dome. This Scandinavian-inspired space is where music is created, taught, and recorded. Large triangular skylights and walls of whitewash and pine add to its sense of tranquillity.
